Tenth Sunday in Trinity - Sunday 1st August

Hi folks Sunday has come around again - this week bringing a continuation of our Gospel lesson in John 6, following the feeding of the 5000 people. Our service is Holy Communion Two, and all are welcome to join us either in-person or online. With respect to the masks situation in churches - while the NI Executive have recently announced that masks can be taken off during services, the risks are still there! The Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientific Officer have both strongly recommended that masks should continue to be used moving in and out of the service, and while singing!  The Church of Ireland has taken the advice of the CMO and CSO and advised that masks should continue to be used for the foreseeable future - and in Aghavea we will following that advice - unless, of course, you should be have a condition that prevents you from using one. See you all on Sunday! Blessings Johnny

Ninth Sunday in Trinity - 25th July 2021

Hi folks Another lovely summer week is almost over - and what a complete swelter of a week it was!  It's no secret that your rector (me) doesn't really like the sweltering heat!  While I've been doing the rounds, the windows of the van has been completely down all the time - or I've been on the motorbike! Anyway, this Sunday sees the 9th Sunday in the Trinity season, and in our readings we have the fantastic passage from John 6:1-21 - the beautiful passage telling of Jesus feeding the 5000 men, women and children.  We also have a very controversial passage from 2 Samuel 11, the start of the relationship between David and Bathsheba. I hope you can join us either online via our Aghavea Parish page on FaceBook or, even better, you could join us in person at the church at 11am!  Here are the service sheets for the service, hope you are blessed through our singing, reading, preaching and prayers. May God bless you always. Johnny

What is love?

Hi folks We talk about “love” all the time, and yet if we were asked to describe it, I wonder what we would say.  Here’s an article that I came across, when some young people were asked that question.  Take a few moments to read and marvel at their answers.   A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does love mean?' The answers they got were broader, deeper, and more profound than anyone could have ever imagined! 'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore... So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' Rebecca - age 8 'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4 'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.' Karl - age 5 'Love is when you go out

Eighth Sunday in Trinity - 18th July 2021

Whoosh!! As I’m writing these notes, it’s absolutely roasting hot - and if it’s like this on Sunday morning, I might well consider sitting outside for the service! Anyway, during the summer holidays, the Gospel reading shows Jesus and the disciples heading away on a break - only for the crowds to follow him.  Our service is Morning Prayer, but we will include our birthday box - it being the third Sunday in the month. As ever, our service starts at 11am, and will be streamed on our Church webpage on Facebook - Aghavea Parish.  You are always welcome to join us, either in person or online. God bless you always. Johnny

Seventh Sunday in Trinity

Hi Folks Sunday came around again - it seems like no time at all since last week!  Anyway, tomorrow sees an important set of readings, from David relocating the Ark of the Covenant to the death of John the Baptist - all connected by the beautiful epistle to the Christians at Ephesus.  I hope you can join us either in person at 11am in Aghavea, or online via the Church Facebook page. God bless you always Johnny

Sixth Sunday in Trinity Season

Hi folks This Sunday sees the Sixth Sunday in Trinity, and the first Sunday in July.  As this is the first Sunday in the month, our service is Holy Communion. In our Gospel, we are reminded of Jesus sending out his disciples to start their public ministry.  This passage is a powerful reminder of our public ministry for God - and that goes much further than simply for the clergy, which we will explore further through the service. As usual, our service will continue to be streamed online via Facebook on our parish page, Aghavea Church.  If the livestream doesn't work, or stalls, we will record the service and stream it via our YouTube channel later. The other important factor to mention this week is the Village Treasure Hunt during the week - Wednesday evening at 7pm, starting in the Play Park.  It'll be a great night - wear clothes for the weather, and good sensible shoes! Everyone welcome, £5 per adult, all proceeds towards Aghavea Church Building Fund. All are welcome to join
