Last night was Good Friday, the final night of our Scripture Fulfilled series for Holy Week. We focused on what is perhaps the clearest prophecy of the cross in the whole of the Old Testament - Isaiah 53. Scripture Fulfilled - The Suffering Servant (Isaiah 52:13-53:12)

Last night we gathered around the Lord's Table to rejoice in the Lord's provision for us - his body broken and blood shed for us . Rev Colin preached from Genesis 22, the offering of Isaac, to show how the Lord provides the substitute for us. Scripture Fulfilled - The Substitute (Genesis 22)

Our special series for Holy Week began last night in Brookeborough Methodist Church. In Scripture Fulfilled we are seeing how the Old Testament scriptures are fulfilled in the cross of Christ. Over recent weeks we've been thinking about 'living by the Spirit' as we've worked through Romans 8. It's been a great reminder of life as a Christian, with the Holy Spirit empowering and equipping us. Earlier in the autumn, we had a short series in the book of the prophet Haggai. Haggai was building for God's glory as he encouraged the returning exiles to rebuild the temple which was lying in ruins. We heard God's word to us, as we seek to build for God's glory here in Aghavea. We're into the second full week of September, the kids are all back at school, and you might feel like the summer is long gone. On Sunday we continued in our 2 Peter series, as we listened in to Peter's warning about false teachers. It might seem like a mission impossible to avoid listening to and being waylaid by false teachers, but Peter gives us the promise that God knows how to rescue the godly facing trials, and that the false messengers will self-destruct. On Sunday evening, we had our Favourite Hymns Evening in the Church Hall. We had 74 hymns suggested, but narrowed down the list to sing 14 hymns, plus 'It is well with my soul' sung by the McMurrays. The sermon looked at the Worship of Heaven as found in Revelation 4&5, where John sees a throne and hears that God is worthy to be praised because he is the Creator; and John sees a scroll and hears that Jesus is worthy to be praised because he is the Saviour. Last Sunday was our annual Gift Day, and on Sunday morning, we heard about two different offerings. Why did Jesus commend the widow's mite but Ananias and Sapphira were condemned? Listen in to the Gift Day sermon here .
