Sermon Notes: Covenant Confirmed (Genesis 17:1-27)
After Abram takes matters into his own hands, God confirms the covenant of promise, not by works.

The word of the LORD was rare
- Passage of time - compare 16:16 with 17:1... 13 years in between!
- Covenant renewal
Q: How can we keep trusting in the times God seems to be silent?

The word of the LORD confirms the covenant
- As for me (4-8) - multitudes - enlarging the vision; offspring, land, relationship: ‘I will be their God.’
- As for you (9-14) - circumcision as the sign of the covenant
- As for Sarai (15-19) - promise of son, Isaac, born to her at 90!
- As for Ishmael (20-21) - blessing, but no promise of inheritance
Q: Will we trust the promise when God’s demands seem so high?

The word of the LORD is fulfilled
- Abraham’s obedience (23-27)
- Jesus’ obedience - cut off for our sake (Colossians 2)
Q: What will we do differently because the power of sin is gone?
